Energy Measurements

Hardware and software for energy measurements in Buildings

Our group holds patents related to devices and systems to monitor and to reduce energy consumption in buildings. Our laboratory is equipped with all the necessary facilities to perform measurements and reports related to Thermal Energy, Acoustic Properties and Electric Consumption.

1. Data logging, Monitoring and Measurements of Energy Parameters

We can advice and provide knowledge to private owners and companies in order to improve the way they manage energy in the here and now. Improved energy performance can provide rapid benefits for an organization. ISO 50001 Energy Management System Certification standard establishes the requirements that Energy Management Systems must satisfy so that constant, systematic improvements can be made to the energy efficiency of organizations.

We master the use of digital technologies in the processes of measuring electrical parameters: electric current, electric voltage, electrical power and electrical energy. Furthermore, we have developed tools to visualize real time current and power data. W e provide the owner with reports on electrical power and electrical energy in their building, as well as an estimation and modeling of its energy consumption. Our field of expertise also includes Temperature, Pressure and Flow Measurements in Buildings’ HVAC systems. Monitoring of higrothermal parameters of the building.

2. Surveys, reports and acoustic measurements

We conduct field measurements of airborne sound insulation and reverberation time. Our group provides technical advice and surveys on UNE EN ISO 140-5 “Acoustics Measurement of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements. Part 5: Field measurements of airborne sound insulation of façade elements and façades” and UNE EN ISO 140-4 “Measurement of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements. Part 4: Field measurements of airborne sound insulation between rooms”. We also develop acoustic reports on ISO 717-1 “Acoustics. Rating of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements. Part 1: Airborne sound insulation”.

3. Development of hardware devices for modeling and monitoring the operation of building systems

We can develop hardware that helps businesses to reduce costs and simplify the gathering, tracking and analyzing of critical business information from cloud-connected devices. Using data logging in small and medium facilities has been traditionally cost-prohibitive. Lowering the cost of data logging opens opportunities for small and medium organizations to achieve real energy savings. Our expertise includes Prototype design using ProtoBoard for the building and testing of circuit solutions, and the manufacturing of high performance analog-to-digital converters and data-loggers. Our hardware provides modular and easy to use solutions for a wide variety of applications, ranging from simple data recording to automated testing of industrial control. To transform existing grids into smart grids, we are deploying a series of intelligent devices.

4. Development of software and firmware solutions

We are paying special attention to the energy services industry and what the Internet of Things means specifically to energy efficiency programs. Firmware provides an endpoint device with connection to the Cloud. The key advantages that are addressed by the firmware embedded in our devices are data connectivity, scalability and real-time performance.
